Honestly, would you buy a car in black? Personally I would.. yeah sure the lines of car aren't as defined but you have to admit.. some cars looks absolutely amazing in a black dress.

Nope. Have a black cat. Black cars get dirty quickly. And they get invisible at night. Give me white, or maybe silver.

I have already experienced black. Would not do so again. It looks amazing when clean, but it takes only the lightest of fallout to make it look dirty. On a new car, that's not as big of an issue. On a car from the early '00s or earlier? Makes it look like a cheap piece of shit that you got for $3.50.
Upkeep of a black car is a labor of love and a labor to love.

If it were "just any car" then no, because black is a hassle to keep clean. But some look so good in black I'd be willing to put up with the extra maintenance.

As an owner of a black car, I can attest that the only great days of it are the first day you wax it. It looks AMAZEBALLS!!! for about an hour...
I love black cars looks, but you have to be ready to put up with a lot of s***!

my car is silver , if you look under all the road grime.

Yes. A supercharged V8 Jag , for example.
Actually, maybe a quarter of my cars have been black, now I think of it. Pain to clean, they get hot, and black paint shows scratches badly, but they do look good....

Black is a great visual colour which can really bring out the looks and styling of the car but it comes at a cost and that cost is maintenance. Blacks have to be looked after as they are prone to showing the defects in the paint which most other colours hide relatively well such as holograms marring and swirls. If you have a black car invest in a good lambs wool wash mitt and some grit guards for the wash buckets and a good prewash such as a snow foam or citrus wash so physical contact is kept to a minimum as most swirls are inflicted in the wash and drying stage.
If you can financially stretch to having a scratch resistant coating or periodically apply a sacrificial coating to protect the paint then the rich colour will not only be protected for longer but also add a deep gloss to the finish.
This is an eight year old BMW X3 in sapphire black that hasn't been looked after.
It's not pretty.
Black can look amazing.
Now a five year old Vauxhall Corsa after a very low contact wash and light polish sealed with a Si02 based sealant.

A lot of cars look good in black, so yeah. Honestly I wouldn't own a black car if it didn't look good in black or it looked better in another color.

Yep! I love the sinister look of black on some cars.
Another reason is I have a weird desire to be able to detail a black car to the point where it becomes a mirror. The sense of satisfaction from that is just immense for me and the upkeep would be a great way to bond with the car. Also, it'd give me a great excuse for hunting down the silicone spray they use on Formula 1 cars to repel all the debris.

silicone spray they use on Formula 1 cars to repel all the debris.
I know just the one. Gtechniq have a couple of Formula 1 cars in Sahara Force India using their products. The Formula 1 product from Gtechniq is called C0 Aerocoat and, well I'll let Force India say (from their website).
Sahara Force India is pleased to announce a new partnership with UK car protection manufacturer Gtechniq ahead of the 2014 Formula One Santander British Grand Prix at Silverstone next weekend.
Gtechniq, a leader in nano-based surface protection coatings, joins us to help maintain the aerodynamic efficiency of the team's two cars, driven by Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Perez.
The company's latest development for the motorsport industry, C0 Aerocoat, is the product that will see application in the highly performance-oriented world of Formula One.
Gtechniq's C0 Aerocoat prevents discarded rubber from the cars' tyres sticking on to the wings, an occurrence which would disrupt the carefully studied aero flow and negatively affect the overall aerodynamic efficiency of the car. By coating the wings of each car with Aerocoat and preventing debris from sticking, the team can maintain the surface quality of the car.
Rob Earle, managing director of Northamptonshire-based company Gtechniq , said: "It is great to be working with Sahara Force India to find a solution to a common problem in motor racing - improving and maintaining the aerodynamic performance of the cars. After rigorous lab and real-world testing, we developed a product that really works and will serve the team well."
Sahara Force India's Technical Director Andrew Green said: "A Formula One car is designed to an incredible degree of precision and it is crucial to maintain all the aerodynamic surfaces in the correct condition so they behave as originally designed. Rubber build-up is highly disruptive and a product like C0 Aerocoat is vital to prevent loss of performance. We are delighted to begin a technical partnership with Gtechniq and benefit from their expertise. We welcome them to the team and look forward to a successful time together."
I've known Rob for a few years now and have been using Gtechniq products for three years (not as a detailer but a 'weekend warrior' who cleans friends and family cars for free to relax) and have had the privilege of testing and trying out new development products prior to release and during final testing.
Actually I used Gtechniq P1 polish by hand with a trifoam pad on the eight year old BMW X3 (BMW known for having quite hard paint).

Mine only takes just over an hour to clean each month as each wash the protection gets topped up. I have done it in half an hour before which amazing considering that's a full wash cycle on a large wagon/estate car and dried.

I have a black car now, it looks great the first 15 mins after I wash it. EVERYTHING shows. I probably won't do black again, unless black is the only option (grand national). There were only two of my cars for sale in my area and both were black.
Here's what the paint looked like when I first got it
Here's what it looked like after 12 hours of claying, polishing, and waxing. Now I just have to maintain it

I think it is kind of boring. There are so many colors a car can be, the entire spectrum beyond silver and black.

That's very interesting. Those are some great results you got from the polish. I will have to look into their line of products now. How do you like Gtechniq compared to the more commercially available products (assuming you use something other than Gtechniq)? Have you had the chance to try the Co Aerocoat?

I highly rate Gtechniq and have for years. The polish (P1) is a water based, non diminishing, pad dependant polish so the results are not enhanced with fillers and can cut with a cutting pad, generally polished with a mediun firm pad or finished with a finishing pad it can be prone to pad clogging if you use too much but as it's non diminishing you only need to lightly mist the area with water to keep working it. The pictures were when I used P1 by hand ad took only three hours and used about 50ml of polish.
I have ued many other brands such as Autobrite, Autofinesse, CarPro, Gyeon, Migliore, Dodo Juice, Meguiars, Bilt Hamber, 3M, to name less than half of them.
I've never used C0, but I believe it is restricted to Formula 1 teams.

Hmm sounds like what I am looking for since m105 tends to produce too much dust for my liking. I'll have to give it a try when I can one of these days. Holy mackerel, your arms must be massive! I had to polish a hood one time by hand and my arm was sore for the rest of the week.
Darn. I was hoping to snag up some Co.

It's hard going but satisfying. The great thing about P1 is what you see is what you get, no false looks. Being water based there is no oily residue. Being non diminishing means you don't have to keep working it till it's broken down, simply wipe off with a microfibre.
I'll message Rob at Gtechniq later today to find out exactly what is the case with C0.
If you want/need anything that isn't on the U.S. site let me know and I'll try and send you some stuff over.

A little video from the man himself, Rob Earle, on the camera and Vassily on the polish.
Then you can protect it. The easiest way and probably the cheapest way is with Gtechniq C2v3 which is a spray on, wipe off and buff to a rich slick glossy shine (it also makes the paint so incredibly silky smooth). You can apply it to either a wet or dry car and can use it as a drying aid to aid drying but to also top up the protection when diluted down to either 2:1 or 3:1 with water, at that ratio you can also use it as a quick detailer for getting rid of the pesky bird dropping you'll probably experience from time to time and also just to give the car a quick going over if you fancy it or at car shows when showing off the car.

Hi fella.
I've hounded Rob from his work this morning and he's been great as always in giving me information on new and unreleased products.
C0 will be released (in the U.K. and Europe at least) in february/march time and is an easily enough product to apply. It's main benefit is the low adhesion to tar and bugs. Not much else they can say in relation to durability as yet till it's released.
I hope this has offered some help. I asked questions I thought you would ask.
I will try a do a review on here for you to look at and if you like it or want to try it, let me know and I'll post some for you to try.

Oops, I didn't spot this reply until just now. Okay, I'm sold on P1 now. That was a mighty impressive amount of restoration from hand polishing. I just went ahead and ordered 100mL of P1 from autogeek. I'll get C2v3 when my when my Klasse sealant runs out since it's a pain to wipe off after applying it.

If it's like any of their other products it'll be great. I've tried all of their products bar Crystal Serum (you have to be an accredited applicator to use as if there is any residue left over that isn't wiped off you can't simply polish it off, you HAVE to wet-sand it off) and EXO (just never got round to trying it).
(not all products are available in the U.S. such as W4, upwards).

If you're ever in the market for a new shampoo, Gwash is a very good highly 'lubricious' (no, I don't think that is a real word but it fits, lol) that cleans well, leaves nothing behind such as gloss enhancers or fillers and UVwash which is like Gwash but adds UV protection and anti-static qualities (reduces dust settling on the vehicle) which I use in summer months if the weather is really sunny (rare in the U.K. but they do happen).
Let me know if you have any questions about the P1 or other products that you want to try (Gtechniq or otherwise) and want some suggestions, advice or just to kick around a few ideas.
When using P1, have a small bottle of water with an atomiser spray head to allow you to keep working it (you only need a very small amount though).
